I’m honestly not that crazy about Hamilton - but I have preordered both The Anthology and the Collector’s 4K. I make a point to support physical media and I think these releases, while not cheap, show a great effort to celebrate and honor the legacy of a show beyond what is a standard cast recording.

I feel like it’s not that rare for a show to announce FINAL WEEKS when it’s actually more than a month or two. Unless we hear a date or see ticket availability change, they’re just using those words to create a more ‘immediate’ demand. The average ticketgoer is more likely to buy when it says weeks as opposed to months.

Andy Karl talked about this a few months ago on the “I Wanna Be Like You” podcast. In summary, they still want to put it out, but they didn’t get the reception they hoped/expected, and they were coming in at a time that other shows were being filmed/released (Hamilton, Come From Away, etc) that were more popular at the time, and deals fell through, etc. Jersey Boys already had a less-than-stellar film adaptation, and was doing the cruise chip circuit for a bit. If you actually watched videos of the tour, you would see that she is singing her face off, dancing very well, serving looks in heels that would terrify most people, and genuinely having a fun time doing something she hasn’t done in seven years.
