I went and saw Billy Elliot last night with my ballet school's and it changed my life.
The music is fantastic and the dancing is phenomenal: David Alvarez was spectacular and blew the entire audience away. He's well known in the ballet world, specially in NY, so I enyoy a lot.
In Shine Hayden Gwyn was fantastic, perfect... and the girls' ensemble are amazing - loved it.
David Bolgna as Michael was perfection.
In angry dance: Wow!!! David was very powerful. Gene Kelly used his ballet training to make tap dancing incorporate all the parts of the ballet, so David "tap" is very balletical ( elegant).
SWAN LAKE was a very powerful moment; when Billy dances to his father was very emotional.
My favorite: ELECTRICITY, the applause David received stopped the show. Great songs! Great performances! Brilliant ...
I saw the three boys during the first week of previews, and came back last night to see David Alvarez again.
I can't say which of the three actors is better, but what I can say is that Alvarez has a impressive power on stage and the audience can perceive it. His dance may be excellent, but is his acting what drives everyone wild in the house. Yesterday, his Electricity received a vast ovation, people stopped applauding, and when David incorporated himself from his landing position, another overwhelming ovation.
Is his the best one? I don't know; who knows? But he is definitely making history in musical/dancing theater. Time will tell.

Sorry BETMNY,
"His dance may be excellent"... May be?.. His dance is excellent, amazing. This guy has an unusual talent. His chaines, piques, pirouettes, double turns... easy elevation, perfect, clean technique... In fact, he's a ballet dancer.
