I bow to your superior knowledge but lets just say I saw around 45 of those performances over a few months and he did on every one of them. I didn't count the seconds but he certainly held it for the length of that particular phrase of music. It was an awesome achievement. He didn't on later performances after he left the show but he certainly did on the ones I saw in the West End! So if you're suggesting that the length of that 26 second note you hear on that cast recording is not for real; well all I can say is I wasn't there when it was recorded but i certainly saw it and heard it for myself along with couple of thousand others on the nights I was at the show.

Order effects play tricks on the memory. He never held the note for as long as in the studio. The studio note was clearly lengthened.

Not sure how you could know if the studio note was lengthened just as I can't be sure it wasn't however... my memories is fine. I do know it was pretty much exactly as you hear on the recording. Luckily for me, I don't have to rely on my memory. I am fortunate enough to possess an audio recording of one of his final performances in september 1997. To satisfy myself that my memory wasn't playing tricks I just dug it out and counted...... you're RIGHT... it wasn't 26 seconds it was 21. I think you could forgive him a few seconds after all those performances!

I can understand you not believing it possible, it was such an amazing feat. For copyright reasons I cant let you hear it so am afraid you will have to take my word for it. As far as I know there have never been any videos of the Lyceum performances. None public anyway. All the videos that are in the public domain, yes I agree in none of them does he hold it for that long. I don't know why. Maybe to save his voice for the show when he was in it and later to simply save it. But you are wrong. He really did in the show. In the ones I saw anyway.
