The Damn Yankees revival had two incredible entrances garnering applause:
Young Joe Gillis (lightning fast perfectly timed entrance)
Lola (rising from the floor with one leg extended perpendicular to the floor)
I hate Elphaba's entrance. It's awkwardly staged to force applause during a moment when too much is already visually happening. Those familiar with the show begin appause immediately and those unfamiliar are trying to figure out where they are and what's going on and then applaud when they realize someone they most likely have never heard of entered the stage, but she's green, so she must be the one everyone is applauding for. Meanwhile, the actress is forced to mime looking around at the fictitional campus in that Drama Department kind of way as if she just happened to be blindfolded until that particular moment. I don't hate the show, but I truly detest that moment. Hiccups are less awkward than that entrance.

I think the best entrance, although not her initial entrance into the show, was Carla in Nine, with Jane Krakowski descending from the rafters in a towel.
Also love King Arthur with the coconuts.

And it's beginning tooooo...(dododododo dum dum dum dododododo dududu dudu dudu du) (motorcycle) "Joanne which way to the stage?" SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!
I love Maureen's entrance.
I also agree with the Little Shop thing, that homeless guy scared the heck out of me!
Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

Maureen from Rent.
"Joanne, which way to the stage?" and the motorcycle are amazing.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys

Glinda in the bubble.
Mama Rose.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 5:32pmIn Peter Hall's original staging of AMADEUS, Salieri's wheelchair was sitting center stage with its back to the audience when they opened the house 1/2 hour before curtain. It looked like somebody was sitting there, but you weren't sure. When the lights began to fade at the openning, Ian McKellan yelled out "Mozart!", and you realized he'd been sitting there all along.
