#1Best Recording of "HONK!"
Posted: 10/20/08 at 8:09pmAnyone have any say in this? I really want to get a recording of "Honk," but I'm not sure which one to get? I know there aren't that many out there, but I was just wondering which one has the most "updated" sound to it. I don't really care for older recordings when they sound so canned and whatnot. Any ideas are much appreciated.

Posted: 10/20/08 at 9:23pmThere isn't really any "old" recording. It's not a very old show. The Wichita recording is what is licensed, but it's also, in my opinion, a very lifeless and dead recording. The Scarborough disc, though with slightly different arrangements of some songs, is infinitely more entertaining and interesting, so it's the one I'd recommend.

You do NOT want that. It's a bunch of untalented children trying to sing.

Posted: 10/20/08 at 10:55pmI agree, i have the witchita recording (american premiere?) and it's not very interesting at all. I suppose it's better than nothing, and I haven't heard the British recording, but I've seen it for sale on line, and it has to be better than this one. The american recording is just bland, and weak in terms of vocal power (all around) and orchestrations.

Posted: 10/21/08 at 9:13amOh everyone get the Scarborough CD right now! If all you've heard is the Wichita recording, you don't know how charming that show can be!

Posted: 10/21/08 at 10:44amAwesome! That's the one I was going to get. I saw it for sale on Footlight.com - I'll def. be getting it. I've seen the clips of Gavin Creel on THE SITE THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED and I really enjoyed what I heard. Thanks.

Posted: 10/21/08 at 10:57amI can't find it on Footlight anymore. All they seem to have is the Wichita and demo recordings :-/
