Best Tenor Roles

I find that I'm usually interested in shows with heavy tenor roles. High belting usually from the tenor. I've found shows like Pippin have captured my attention. But Im kind of new to the broadway obsession.

What roles are the best tenor roles, most vocally difficult. Obviously what shows too. Thanks!

Phantom - Phantom of the Opera. It just SOUNDS difficult, to put that much passion into songs. But then again, I'm not very familiar with vocal ranges for men.

most vocally difficult? it's probably between jean valjean and billy bigelow in my opinion.

re: Best Tenor Roles

If you can do falsetto, Jean Valjean in Les Miserables is an amazing role. as is marius, but he goes kinda low.

Billy Bigelow is a baritone role, like most (all?) R&H leading men.

Robert in Company is an awesome tenor role with one of the best tenor songs.

i don't know many baritones with a high b flat taryn.

Danggit, I'm not functioning well right now apparently. I always thought "Being Alive" was a tenor song.

Sondheim has some really great legit tenor roles.
Thou giveth fever.

re: Best Tenor Roles

but robert is not one of them. robert's written for a baritone. not only pitch-wise, but voice quality wise. remember that voice part has more to do with voice quality than range.

Hmm...I'm really growing attached to Laurie in Little Women. :)

now aigoo, i love you dearly. but that was not an intelligent comment! laurie as one of the best tenor roles? or most vocally difficult? as a tenor i have to laugh myself.

No, no, no...I'm not saying it's the best. Or the most challenging. But I'm just loving "Take a Chance on Me" right now.

re: Best Tenor Roles

I know, everyone's probably sick to death of Piazza, but Fabrizio is another challenging tenor role, I think, because you have to use your falsetto and your belt, and the role calls for a legit sound as well.

re: Best Tenor Roles

the definite challenging roles that currently exist are (in random order)

- jesus and judas JCS
- valjean LM
- pippin and leading player Pippin
- bobby strong Urinetown
- mark RENT

and definitely...definitely galileo in We Will Rock You. it's an incredible sing - no bias of course...
"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending. The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."
