At the same time you don't want to choose something that's done to death, you also don't want to find the ultimate perfect song and have the auditioners focused on your material. Big mistake.
You want them to hear YOU more than the song. That's why for years, it was considered a no-no to sing Sondheim at an audition. Most people are over that now, but... Back in the day, the song almost always outshone the performer. Especially when the material was relatively new.
So, pick something that allows you to sell yourself above all else... not the song, show, or composer.
