Bette Midler HELLO DOLLY orchestrations

This revival has new orchestrations. The new orchestrations are fine but I'm wondering why a decision would be made to have new ones created and who wanted the change? I would imagine that it is not cheap to have someone create new ones. The orchestra for this revival is relatively the same size as the original I believe so it is not a question of having to reduce the original orchestrations. Were they aiming for a different sound for contemporary audience's ears? A "fresher" sound?

Some of the orchestrations sound much better and fresher. Take Dancing and Sunday Clothes, for instance. They sound much different on the new cast recording (with better singing, too) than they did in the original.

They do sound a lot fresher and they highlight the voices of these specific performers very well. I do hope that they raise the keys to better accommodate Peters' strong upper range. The score just sounds really thrilling in the theatre with these orchestrations.
