maybe it's time for a new interpretation of the role. Buckley surely isn't entirely humorless, but she's not off-the-wall like Angela Lansbury. i think Buckley's hard-edged serious approach to the role might be really cool; she is the villian after all.

I don't doubt that Betty could do the role, it's can the theatre producers stand her? I've worked with her and am friends with people who work with her all of the time- She is VERY difficult to handle, because she's so pushy and unreasonable. She thinks there's no one better than her and she won't just relax and enjoy being part of the production. It's always about this person who will need to do her hair or that person who will need to make her costumes. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that she either drops (because the producers won't put up with her) or she gets fired (because the producers won't put up with her). Which of course will be very sad because she's so talented, but if I were her, I'd be careful- this might just be the last stop.

Oh whatever. This is not Betty's last stop. She's a legend, whether she's difficult or not. Now, when we see that Betty's reprising Grizabella for a community theatre in Florida, then ok, maybe that's the last stop. Those people down there in Texas seem to have a handle on all of this, so I'm sure they knew all about Betty before getting into it and I'm sure Betty didn't just say, "Ok, SURE" and then turn around after signing a contract demanding everything under the sun. So, in that case, I bet they're getting along well.

PS: But you're all right; I hear she's a nightmare! :o)

I for one am beyond excited in the casting, Betty Lynn is a master, she'll bring much magic to the role.
