wildcatsmathers, Peters comments seem terribly self serving.

re: Betty Hutton Gypsy

I once heard a live recording of Margaret Whiting as Rose. She may not have had the ideal voice for the part, but she was fascinating! I wonder if any other divas who played the part in stock got to record songs: Gisele MacKenzie, Vivian Blaine, Jo Anne Worley, Janis Paige?

I'll bet Janis Paige would have been great---brassy and belty, and I love Margaret Whiting's voice. She would have really brought out the Styne melodies, no doubt.

Where did Whiting do it? And where can I hear?

re: Betty Hutton Gypsy

Janis Paige (1966), Margaret Whiting (1975) and Jo Anne Worley (1984) all did it at the Melody Top Theatre in Milwaukee. Each had something good about her interpretation, but my favorite of those three was Worley. Don't know where you could hear Whiting or the others.
