LOL I was actually surprised the first time I had heard that Cats was closing (and I felt the same way when I had heard the Fantasticks was closing and when Les Miz was closing), only because they had all been there sooo long. When a show runs a really long time, it suprises me more to hear that it's closing than a show that has only been running a year.

I would be in shock if someone said something like Beauty and the Beast was closing.

Actually, it's always been known that 'Urinetown' would probably close when the theater closed down. It was news when the transfer was announced, even. It just seems everyone forgot about it until now. But it really wasn't news.

I was surprised by "Urinetown" and definately surprised by "La Boheme." I know it closed because it didn't do well, but it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen on stage. It definately closed before its time.
