Mamma Mia! and Hairspray.

Obviously, Phantom of the Opera is the biggest hit. It is currently the longest running show on Broadway. In London, it is Les Miserables.

I doubt if any of the newer shows will run longer than POTO. Mamma Mia probably will come closest due to its international appeal and the amount of tourism in NYC.

What? I wasn't aware that POTO had passed it's number of shows against Cats...As far as I knew Cats was still the longest running musical...???

**rolls eyes** CATS is still the longest running, with Les Mis in second and POTO in third.. but out odf the shows CURRENTLY open, operating, and ruunning, Phantom is the longest running

some disparaging rumours say that ALW/RUG is keeping POTO open long enough to pass Mackintosh's LES MIZ for the #2 slot...ego, ego, ego...

Out of all of these which show do you think is the actual best out of all of them, my vote is for Les Mis as leaps and bounds above the others.

Perhaps Lloyd webber and CanMac feel the need to have the biggest and longest three shows and keep on building because they have have a Freudian complex when it comes to size......

Maybe I said it wrong. Phantom of the Opera is the longest-running show currently open on Broadway. Does that make more sense?

i would agree that i liked the mix of score/story/spectacle in LES MIZ (original version) the best...i'm a pretty big fan of Trevor Nunn, however...

Son.. feel free to give me a hard time.. or any time.. whenever you like.. mwah!!

I WAS gonna just say it, but as Phantom and I discussed, sometimes a shrouded comment is more clever. re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Biggest hit

Being the biggest Bernadette Peters fan, I am prone to say that GYPSY is the current biggest hit on broadway. But many will disagree re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Biggest hit
But I think Hairspray and the Producers are probably the current biggest hits on broadway. Two shows that I really don't care for at all.

I'm gonna go with Hairspray, and probably Wicked. Just arriving on the scene, the large, large Gershwin has broke a record for selling tickets.

Phantom is the most financially successful musical according to the Guiness Book of World Records 2004.

Billy I highly doubt you can call Wicked the biggest hit on Broadway right now. It hasn't proved its staying power, that is the difference between a hit and a fling.

BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"
