Billy Crystal#0

I mentioned this in the Brad Oscar post, but decided to make another thread because it is a different topic of conversation. Do you think Billy Crystal would make a good Max Bialystock in the Producers? I thought he would be great for the role after hearing him sing at the Oscars.

Danny DeVito? Can't really sing, though.

I think Crystal would be great. I've thought so since I saw him on the Oscars this year. Updated On: 7/25/04 at 12:38 AM

I thought I heard a rumor somewhere about Danny Devito (Max) and Tom Hanks (Leo). I want to see Tom Hanks in a musical...that would be great! Can he sing though?

He'd be extraordinary.........and, I do think that David Schwimmer would be a fantastic Leo Bloom (even after the whole Larry David and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" episode) beside Mr. Crystal. Billy and Schwimmer would be fantastic. I also think that John Goodman, Richard Kind, Kelsey Grammer and Robert Klein also all have the potential to be fantastic Max Bialystocks. Rick Moranis, Seth Greene, David Hyde Pierce (especially beside Kelsey Grammer - their chemistry is impeccable) and Jimmy Fallon would all be great Leo Blooms. Why can't they find an appropriate star pair to replace Nathan and Matthew? It's absurd. Updated On: 7/25/04 at 01:02 AM

Max: Billy Crystal, Richard Kind,...there is also a guy I saw on the Chicago tour who played Amos, thought he would make a good Max, last name is Bokhur (sp?) or something like that..., Jason Alexander (again)

Leo: Rick Moranis, Martin Short (again), Tom Hanks (if he can sing)

Is there anyway to make suggestions to casting?

Max Bialystock is not a role geared to Robin Williams' talents. I love Robin Williams and would kill to see him on Broadway, but I do not think that "The Producers" is a proper vehicle for him to make his non-solo Broadway debut. In all honesty, I think that the best choice for Max Bialystock would be Mr. Robert Klein, who has incredible delivery being a hysterical comedian, a great singing voice ("Colonoscopy," "I Can't Stop My Leg"), is very "Jewish" if you know what I mean, and is also a very good dramatic actor. Opposite him, I would love to see Rick Moranis. He may be little older than he was for Little Shop, but he has a great voice and fits perfectly into the nerd category. So, producers of "The Producers," Mel, Stro...hear me out...try it out, and continue the successful run - don't blow it on actors who cannot fill Lane and Broderick's shoes.

Just because you aren't a big celebrity like Nathan Lane and Matt Broderick doesn't mean they can't fill their shoes. I'm sure there are people out there who are just as talented as they are. They just don't have the star power to back them up, so people rarely care.

Tom Hanks has said repeatedly that he hates musicals.

Hates seeing them or doing them? I believe that he has seen the Producers.
