I walked by the stage door of the Little Shubert Theatre and noticed a sign that said "Billy Elliot Stage Door", which leads me to believe that production is rehearsing at that theatre.
This and with the Legallly Blonde reality show having used 37 Arts for their auditions, is this what is in store for these off-broadway theatres now?
I assume, financially, this helps them pay rent instead of taking a gamble on a new piece of theatre (or even a revival).
But The Little Shubert isn't that far out of the way from Times Square, do producers just not want to use that space?

37 Arts is a disaster of a space, and it's widely reported that FELA will be the last show.
The Little Shubert is a GREAT space that's much too large for most things (which is why Billy Elliot is rehearsing there, I assume). It is a great space for concert engagements - Three Mo Tenors filled the space very well; Tommy Tune and Mandy Patinkin did shows there, too.
The Little Shubert is a great space so it doesn't surprise me that Billy Elliot is using it for rehersasl. Who knows. Considering that the show is playing at The Imperial which is a Shubert house it might be cheaper to rehears at The Little Shubert then to rent out a studio.
