Just got back from "Inherit The Wind", and I am still in awe of the production ! Its a scary thought that most likely, it will get even better !! Had a balcony seat, on the aisle--- excellent view, and fabulous for $26.
(Regarding the stage seating--- It is a very cool setup-- basically looks like jury boxes... Minor Spoiler--- another added bonus is that some of the cast actually use some of the seats that are unoccupied) You might end up sitting next to one ! I have stage seats for 4/21, so will be able to give more details then) - Spoke with a few people after the show that did have stage seating, and they said if was incredible.
Ok.. the show... after seeing Brian Dennehy in "Salesman", I could not wait for this play to open. I have read the book numerous times, and I always thought that he would make a perfect Brady. I was not let down. I also thought that there was no way he would ever take a backseat to another performer. This time, he has.
As Drummond, Christopher Plummer is simply ASTOUNDING !!!
I can see a Tony NOW !!! With Dennehy, I kind of got the feeling that he was a singer, saving his voice, knowing that he has 8 performances a week. He seemed to hold back a bit (although, he was far better in the second act)
Plummer was amazing from the first word out of his mouth !!
As Hornbeck, Denis O'Hare is very good, although his character is not as annoying as he seems to be in the book- O'Hare's Hornbeck didnt get under my skin as much as I thought he would, but he is still very good in the role.
Kudos also to Byron Jennings as Reverend Brown- his "prayer meeting" sermon was something to behold.
Maggie Lacey is good as Rachel (think she will be much better as the show goes along)
Benjamin Walker as Cates was ok in a small role, but seemed to rush his lines a bit, which took away some of their message. They should be more thought provoking.
Overall, this is an amazing production... when Dennehy matches his fire with Plummer's, LOOK OUT !!!!

I dont know.... I come here cause its sort of a "fraternity" of theatre-lovers, but I often wonder why others frequent the board.
