What exactly is this show about. I read a few things on it but still am unsure. A friend wants to get tickets for my parents as a present but I don't think they'd like it. I heard there is audience participation and at one point twinkies are involved. Seems odd to me. I know it's a lot of percussion as well.

It looks like two hours of pure torture. I have never been into performance theatre at all - Cirque de Soile (sp?), Mummenschanz, etc. I would run screaming from the theater.

You have to be kidding me. Blue Man Group is one of the most amazing off-broadway shows out there! It is non-stop energy and great for the whole family. It has been running in New York since 1991 and is still selling out shows. You have to see these guys at least once in your life. You will not be dissapointed at all. I have seen them 3 times myself. It's not your usual theatrical show. There isn't really a plot of sorts, but you watch as the Blue Man Group discover objects and hidden talents. You don't have to participate in the show if you don't want to. However, I would die to be on that stage.

Only one lucky contestant gets to share in the twinkie love.

Well there's like a whole back story of "society", as well as a how to rock tutorial, several interesting acts that involve the blue men and food, spin art, paint drumming, playing tubes, etc. There really isn't much audience participation unless you get to be the twinkie person, or the one that helps them make that giant piece of art. Everyone basically just helps teepee the place towards the end of the show.

Torture...I wouldn't say so, unless for some reason you're really against blue guys in grease paint and percussions.

I can watch garbage men bang on trash cans for free.

WonderBoy, I think you are talking about Stomp, because Blue Man Group uses custom made pipes and other invented objects. Plus, they looking nothing like garbage men.

I saw Blue Man Group and loved it! Marlene gave a pretty good summary on what it's about. A lot of their skits use physical comedy and other aspects of the show are dry humor.

But the secret ingredient is love. Dammit.

No, rclocalz I wasn't confusing STOMP with BLUE MAN GROUP. They both are right up there in that genre of TAP DOGS and BRING IN DA' NOISE BRING IN DA' FUNK with me. After about 15 minutes I have a headache and I need a cocktail. I find it very monotonous to say the very least. To me the only difference between BLUE MAN GROUP and STOMP is that both casts look like they need to bathe but only one is bald and blue.

I really cannot describe it, but trust me you should see it. It's not so much about the music or even what they do. It's an "experience". It's consistently crowded in Chicago. Did anyone who has seen it, actually not like it?

I could never be friends with somebody who saw Blue Man Group and didn't like it. As for people who dismiss it without seeing it; those people I actively hate.

Blue Man Group's got everything that is great about live theater, the most important factor of which is communal joy.

Blue man group is good if you want to be wowed, not if youre there for the theater experience. Personally, i didnt like it. Sure, there were impressive stunts, but i left the theater the exact way i walked in. there was no lasting effect- no excitement that makes you feel like youve experienced something truly unique. But thats jsut me.
