I have a voice teacher at a performing arts school and have been taking voice lessons for five years now, however I was curious to know if anyone knew any and could reccomend some books on the instruction of vocal technique (musical theatre specifically). I meet with my voice teacher frequently, I just think it would be beneficial to have something to bring to my lessons I might have read.

It's not really an instructional book, but "Great Singers on Great Singing" by Jerome Hinds is a collection of interviews lead by the great operatic bass in which other opera singers tell of their technique, daily routine, etc. Hines even speaks with noted vocal coaches and a speech therapist, so you have some medical insight, too. I would say it's absolutely essential reading if you're taking voice lessons of any kind ... And it's pretty cheap!

I'm a singing teacher/vocal coach from Australia, and Singing in Musical Theater: The Training of Singers and Actors is one of the most fascinating books I've read, teachers from all around the world share their philosophies on singing so you get a really holistic view.

http://www.amazon.com/Singing-Musical-Theater-Training-Singers/dp/1581154828/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251723344&sr=8-7

Also, Gillyanne Kayes' 'Singing And The Actor' is a really interesting book too.

I would second 'Great Singers on Great Singing' too!

And Joan Melton's One Voice is very interested too.
