Truly a genius. For those who don't know his work, there are a couple of very good books (especially one by Frank Rich) that display many of his classic designs.
His Follies set was magnificent!

I just bought a book about Boris Aronson's set designs at Half Price Books and I wa really amazed. I think his designs would be as edgy and modern today as they were 30, 40 or 50 years ago. WOW, is all I have to say!
His jungle gym concept for Company was so unique.

He did an incredible job with what he had in his days.

Finally, an interesting thread on this hopeless site.
Aronson was hardly 'unappreciated,' though. He won the Tony Award for scenic design six times, worked with top-of-the-line directors like Prince and Kazan, was lionized by the critics in his lifetime and had retrospectives of his work presented in museum exhibitions, as well as memorialized in books.

Though I was not around to experience his designs, I loved reading about his sets for FOLLIES in the Ted Chapin book. I'd love to see more photographs, other the black and white ones they have.
Truly one of the greatest designers to grace the theatre.
Margo is right (but, of course). The Frank Rich book is wonderful.
Almost every designer since has been influenced by his genius.

I meant to buy the Frank Rich book when it was first issued... and know I'm kicking myself!
Brilliant man!
