The reviewer likes the performer but dismisses the book and staging of this cabaret-musical and wonders why the fireworks only happen during the last 5 minutes. In the early 1960's there was a musical called simply SOPHIE that played the Winter Garden and lasted until the end of the week. It was written by the multi-talented Steve Allen and starred Libi Staiger. Apparently Sophie Tucker eludes those trying to showcase her and her considerable talent.
