Posted: 9/28/04 at 5:32pmSince the Boy From Oz is now heading for London, etc., (and was "recorded for posterity on October 20, 2003") does this mean the DVD will not be released?

I guess the big finale could be "I go to Tokyo"

Posted: 9/28/04 at 7:20pmI've seen clips from the Japanese Urinetown, and beside Bobby Strong looking like a 12 year old girl--it is very very humurous.

Posted: 9/28/04 at 7:34pmWell, you have to give the producers points for determination. I have my doubts about how well the show will do, but since Japan and London are both often incomprehensible to me I won't make any big pronouncements.

In London, I can see either Aussie and former pop star Jason Donovan or even Robbie Williams ( he might change his mind) doing the show.
In Japan, perhaps they will focus on the music itself.
It did very well in Australia ( best loved musical, topping all other West End transfers ) and had someone other than Hugh creating the role ( Todd Mckenney) although the story goes that it was first offered by Ben Gannon to Hugh.

Posted: 9/29/04 at 10:09pmSince they never filmed it for DVD release I would have to say no DVD will be released. And even if it was recorded for DVD (which it was not) there is no way they would put it out before a London bow.

The Japanese LOVE musical theater, especially big flashy revues (I live in Japan)...recently, Phantom and Beauty and the Beast have been captivating folks in Kyoto and Osaka, Lion King is roaring in Nagano, Contact and Fiddler are touring, RENT is settling in Tokyo, CATS is heading for Okinawa, Urinetwon has Sapporo audiences pissing themselves....In short - combine flashy costumes or sets, huge casts, elaborate plots, one-liners (which usually get changed to suit Japanese pop-culture) and heart-breaking melodrama and you've got a hit in Japan!
Saw BFO in July and was actually surprised by how impressive and enjoyable the show was (though I must admit, mostly because of the performances) and was speaking with one of the chorus who told me that sadly, no, there is no plan for a DVD release OF THE BROADWAY SHOW (can we read between the lines?)...
