Its a shame David doesn't do Broadway anymore.
I have never been impressed with NPH's Voice so this could be an uphill battle for him.

The irony is, depending on his vocal range, this would be a great role for him. Of late, I'm increasingly beginning to see him as Hedwig in Gnosis' shadow. Granted, this is rather unfair of me and a cursory reading of events from the tabloids, but if the bra fits...

You're just actively trying to make people puke with your "insights" now, aren't you?
Maybe you'll be three-quarters of the way to a slimmer ass by the time I'm done.
I think he'll do just fine! But I was hoping when he moved back, we'd finally be getting that BARNUM revival...

If you look at NPH's career, he can do almost anything so i don't doubt the casting choice.
I do question why some producers would revive a small cult project that won't last 3 months on Broadway.

FInding Namo: What is your problem? So what if someone doesn't think NPH is or isn't right for the part? How does that effect you? Stop trashing another poster just cause he/she doesn't have the same views as you. jeesh.

WOW I'm in the horrible casting camp. Hope I am wrong cuz it is such a great show. NPH please don't destroy MR.

Of course he'll do fine. Anybody who has actually seen him perform live in person in a musical knows he will do fine.
bRoadway gUy: No.
@Overkill: Thank you! Someone with reason. Put him in a show where he's in his current element. He hasn't been Hedwig-ready since Rent.

Said the twerp who has seen him on bootlegs or something?

I don't question the casting. I question if this show will work in a huge Broadway theater. And who is the audience for this show?

Oh, so you mean concerns that you're interested in seeing how they'll be dealt with? Me too.

Wasn't he an Emcee after his time in Rent?

I think it's a fabulous idea. So much so I'll probably make the trek to NYC to specifically see this.
@Namo: Says someone who's followed his career trajectory and knows that even a close reading would reveal, offbeat choices or not, this is not NPH. With a good director and some changes in the musical arrangements (the notes are too high), they might be able to massage it into something. But if they leave it as it is, this thing is going to be deader than Ken Davenport's reputation. (Look, I snuck in a joke that's as old as you!)
Yea I'm much more concerned with how this show will fare in a Broadway house than Neil's casting. I've never been a particular fan of his voice, but I think it could work well on the score, particularly Origin of Love.
I just don't know how a show like this could ever work on Broadway, no matter who was cast.
Wasn't he an Emcee after his time in Rent?
That hardly qualifies one for Hedwig, although now that you mention that, Alan Cumming would be a really interesting Hedwig...

So, no, you've never seen him perform live in an actual show. Figures. Well, I am sure your concern trolling is very important to you, but you're a know-nothing, basically, and it shows.
"Who better to pass the wig to but the finest entertainer of his generation?"
Um wha, who? This is false on too many levels... which generation exactly? He's not exactly A-list.
"It's like you're putting together a fantasy rock band and Paul McCartney agrees to play bass."
How is it like that? Paul McCartney is an ICON.
"Neil Patrick Harris is a consummate stage performer who knows how to rock - there is no one better to play the role of Hedwig on Broadway."
Um really? He knows how to...what's that rock? REALLY? You mean like his MC skills?
All my bitching aside, this casting is interesting and fun. The show is great, and I will see this. But really NPH? He's an ok singer, he's an OK host, but he isn't a rocker, his acting is ok but he's always playing himself. I just don't understand.
Since the only one scolded (by broadway guy, whose posts I actually enjoy, regardless of some people's opinion of him) in this thread was you, Namo, I'd say maybe you've got soul-searching to do, bubby. People learned to deal with me. That you never could says a hell of a lot more about you than me.
Okay, obviously not everyone thinks he can pull it off, but I have to say: I am SO excited by this news. Not only because it's one of my favorite shows ever, but because I think NPH will be genius in it. I've always thought of him more as a great entertainer than a great singer, and if he attacks this role with gusto, I think he could be pretty terrific. He surprised me in Assassins, and he surprised me more in Company. I'm ready for him to bring it. I'm so excited that I would be willing to pay full price for this. And I haven't done that since...2006?
I mean, I think Neil is actually good for Hedwig. But just good. I'm not amazed by this news. But I really was waiting for HIMYM to end, just so we could get that BARNUM revival, which is a much better role for him, IMO. That being said, if Anthony Rapp could play this role, I'm sure NPH can.
As far as it faring in a Broadway house, I think it will do wonderfully, especially in a smaller house.. I'd love to see it in the Booth, Circle in the Square, or the Helen Hayes.
I love Hedwig and I think Neil Patrick Harris can definitely pull off the part. I am excited to see him in the role. I bet they're hoping to get the Booth or something small like that. (The Booth would be the best venue for it.)

This show really doesn't have an audience, thats the thing. It will run for 3 months and then it will be over. It certainly won't work in a large theater.
