Can I start a Brent Carver appreciation thread? I just saw his brilliant performance in VIGIL in Toronto a few days ago, and I'm in awe of this man's talents. It was my first time catching him onstage, but I've enjoyed him immensely on the original cast recording of KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN, and I've heard bits and pieces from PARADE (btw, is the recording worth getting?). Anyone want to share their experiences of watching him onstage?
Yes, Parade certainly is worth getting. He's heartbreaking on that recording.

He was also terrific as Edgar in the recent King Lear revival starring Christopher Plummer.
Brent Carver is spectacular and needs another vehicle show.

bluewizard, like I said in another thread, I love Brent. My mom is friends with him from years ago and she's seen everything he's ever done! She's been taking me to his shows for years and I have to say that Vigil was one of my favorite performances of his. Parade was great and I loved most of the Stratford stuff he's done. My Life with Albertine was probably my least favorite but hey, it's Brent. :) He's also a very nice, and funny, man.

Yes, I wish I had caught the play earlier in the run so I could have gone again. He was brilliant and demonstrated such fine command of his performance and such brilliant control of his rollercoaster, character-probing speeches that I couldn't get enough of him. I hope he does another play or musical soon!
I've been a fan since Kiss of the Spider Woman. His performances are so wonderfully emotionally layered, it's a real treat to watch him work.
Years ago I started an unofficial fan site for him, which needs some serious updating. (Must add photos and reviews for Vigil!) The link is below-- check it out!

I first saw Brent in Stratford, Ontario in the role of the Pirate King (Pirates of Penzance). He came out of the wings with flowing blond hair, billowy white shirts and thigh-high boots. I couldn't take my eyes off him the entire show and saw the production six times that season. I saw him in Hamlet, Cabaret and others. Our favorite B&B happened to be a few doors down from his house in Stratford so we got to know him and chatted with him several times. I have written him and was shocked to receive handwritten postcards from him in reply. He is very shy and soft spoken and a true gentleman.
I've never seen him on stage but I once worked on a film with him and I can tell you that, besides the enormous talent, he is the most considerate and thoroughly professional actor one could imagine. For him it truly is all about the work.
