hey everyone,
Please come see this new musical... it has a witty book and incredible music. Here's the info:
http://www.smarttix.com/show.aspx?showCode=TWI3
Twist: a new rock musical by Gila Sand, based on "Oliver Twist," casts a spell of luscious drag, scintillating S & M, twisted humor, delicious candy and other addictive treats. In this fantasy of Victorian England, Dickens' orphan has grown into an attractive young man with a taste for trouble,
punished at the Workhouse, picked up on the street by
a wolfish Artful Dodger, and brought home to a decidedly different Fagin than ever seen before.
With music by Paul Leschen, Scissor Sisters songwriter
and musician, and featuring Brian Charles Rooney
('Lucy Brown' in the 2006 Broadway revival of "The
Threepenny Opera") as the 'Artful Dodger.'
First shown at the Philadelphia Fringe, where critics
wrote:
"The classics are not created for naught. Oliver Twist
was made to be reinvented as this kinky production!"
- City Paper
"The cast was composed of actors with strong voices,
the script was funny, and the band was good ...I can
see it becoming a local cult fave." - Jillian Blair

"luscious drag, scintillating S & M, twisted humor, delicious candy and other addictive treats"
Ever since Threepenny closed, that's what Broadway's been missing.

"farfaraway,"
interesting that you just joined on 1/22... this wouldn't happen to BE Kamen E., would it?
From what I was told, and heard on the earlier demo, Mr. Edwards couldn't handle the vocal demands of the role. He was also a replacement for the Philly production, as Mr. Rooney wasn't available to perform in the Philly fringe due to a previous production commitment, so the director recast for that production.
I think it was more interesting seeing Mr. Rooney as the Artful Dodger. Playing Fagin would have been too similar to what he did in The Threepenny Opera. He also added MANY many levels to the character that I did not see in Mr. Edwards' performance on a video tape of the Philly production. Mr. Rooney is known for being a detail oriented actor, and I didn't see that level of detail from Mr. Edwards.
Just an opinion - but one shared by many of the people who did see "Twist."

Twopiece - I love the avatar!
I think that Brian probably did a fantastic job as Dodger, considering he is as talented as he is.

oh, and the proof is in the pudding - if you check FARFARAWAY'S profile, you will see that, 'coincidentally,' all his threads are about this Kamen guy

hmm... I would still wager that you are he.
What I find most interesting is that you traveled to see TWIST again after you said it was "Terrible." (you claimed that it was terrible in the thread you started entitled "Kamen Edwards" - referenced in an earlier post of mine).
And if it IS "Terrible," why ask about its future.
Again, I would be very careful on here about shilling... nothing is worse than not being honest.
