I loved this show. It's not billing itself as a "musical," and yet it's one of the best musicals I've seen.
It's so smart. And funny. And moving. And engaging. It's a bloody terrific show.
It's very early in the season, and there are some very fascinating musicals coming up. But "Brief Enounter" is a TERRIFIC night in the theatre. And it IS a musical. It's not billing itself as such, but those Noel Coward songs are better integrated into this show than they ever were in Noel's original shows. If "Contact" could win a Tony, this show deserves a chance.
Go see it. It IS a musical. And a very, very entertaining one.
Though I won't make the early jump to call it the best musical of the season, I will agree that it is a very entertaining, charming piece. From the moment I walked into the theater, I knew I was seeing something different. It was one of the most enjoyable evenings I've had in a while. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a charming night out!
Attending Brief Encounter was one of the loveliest evenings I have ever spent in the theater. But at leaving time, I too wondered what category this show would be classified as--Play or Musical. Whatever the case, I hope it gets nominated for a slew of awards.
This production is the show I'm looking forward to the most this year. I'm not seeing it until a week before it closes. Any talk of it getting extended?
