Hi! I was wondering what other people's experiences with Broadway Across America have been like. I have been a premier subscriber in Seattle for four years now, and I'm thinking about not renewing this year. In recent years, it seems like the cost has gone way up, and there's less choice in what you see. So this year, if I renew, I'm stuck seeing Andrew Lloyd Webber's version of The Wizard of Oz, which sounds horrible. Also, part of being a premier subscriber is that you get to go to special events. This year, there was one, and it was a cast party at 10:30 pm on a Tuesday. As an elementary school teacher, I am no longer able to attend parties that late on week nights. This year, we didn't even have a season announcement party. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Opposite experiences? Other experiences?
As far as announcements/events go, that doesn't have to do with Broadway Across America... That kind of stuff is up to the venue and local presenters. As far as the cost going up, it really just depends on the season. Most cities try to have a balance of small AND big shows so the cost of a subscription isn't outrageous. For example, if a season has Lion King, Book of Mormon, Wicked, AND Jersey Boys all in one season, the cost of a single subscription is going to be pretty high since those are expensive shows to book. I'm not sure what Seattle's lineup is like, but sometimes based on routing and what is available, they may be limited in their selection and have to bring in more "bigger" and expensive shows than usual. I know most cities try to keep a pretty even balance though.
I'm not sure where your seats are, but if you have been a season ticket holder there for a long time and have worked your way into really good seats, letting them go will most likely entail "starting over" if you ever want to come back as a season ticket holder at a later season.
