"(especially since they've only mounted 2 adaptation thus far)"
Oh really? THE LION KING and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, right... with TARZAN, LITTLE MERMAID, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME in the process of heading for the stages...

Posted: 10/30/04 at 2:06pmI said thus far. As for the 3 you mentioned. When they hit Broadway and (if) Disney has 5 musicals all running, you can get as snarky as you want.

Posted: 10/30/04 at 2:24pmTurning blockbusters into musicals is NOT a Disney trend. It happened several times before Disney came to Broadway (see 42nd Street, Singing in the Rain, The Goodbye Girl, Meet Me In St. Louis, Little Shop of Horrors) and has happened far more often without Disney's help (Millie, Producers, Urban Cowboy, Big, Victor Victoria, Hairspray).

Posted: 10/30/04 at 2:26pmUmmm.... Tarzan, Mermaid, and Hunchback have been in the talking stages forever. What's the hold up? Thought they were taking over Broadway!

"but turning their blockbuster movies into stage shows is just lack of ideas and creativity. Making money with the same story over and over and over again."
True, yet not. Reusing stories is what people do. If you rule this out then we wouldn't have shows like Little Women and Spamalot coming out. Also RENT (la boheme), Aida, Wicked, The Producers, All Shook Up, Dracula, most of the shows on Broadway now are reused stories.

While I'm ok with it all right now, I am worried that Disney will "take over." I've heard of several new Disney shows that are "in the works," as it were. I don't want New York to become Disney World ((BIG exxageration there people, don't yell at me!))

I don't mind stories like Dracula being turned into a stage show - or even BEAUTY AND THE BEAST for that matter - but if it's being done by the exactly the same studio that produced the movie and exact copy of the film, then it seems to me that the ONLY motive of doing the show in first place is financial aspects and nothing else.
And true, there's been a lot of blockbuster movies turned into stage shows even before Disney, but how many movie studios actually have produced them and initiated the project?

Please show me a producer that does not look at the financial aspects before putting their money in a show.

Of course they do. I'm not saying that. But if the money (=profit) is the ONLY thing they think and look...

Posted: 10/30/04 at 5:04pmHonestly, almost everything is driven by money. Let's not kid ourselves on this one. I was having a conversation with an actor friend of mine last night, who said that some of her friends weren't going to dress up for Halloween cause it was cliche and stupid. My response was: Someday that cliche and stupid holiday is going to put breakfast on your table. What happens when the only job you can get at any given moment is handing out flyers in Toys R Us dressed up in a Mickey Mouse costume?

Posted: 10/30/04 at 8:22pmIt wasn't like that at all... she's one of my closest friends and I know she's gonna go far. I wasn't saying that in any way to her really... it was a generalized joke... I'm an actor as well... I'm looking forward to my day job handing out flyers or waitressing :)
