Thanks for that!
Who were the guys singing Dirty Rotten Number? And the people who sang Why We Like Spelling?
And it makes me really want to see Eden in Wicked.

damn...Ashley Brown sounded amazing. What song was she singing? I'm unfamiliar.
I was also wondering about the DRS guys...understudies, perhaps?
And I was...less than impressed with A Tale of Two Cities and Ring of Fire. It'll be interesting to see the final products.
And I can't imagine Lestat being THAT terrible with a voice like Hugh Panaro's behind it...

I think the Spelling Bee cast was the San Fran/Tour cast. But I am not sure. Ashley Brown sang A Change In Me

I got to go to this event two years ago -- it was a GREAT afternoon. If I could convince my principal to let me take the day off every year and go I would -- maybe when he retires and the new principal comes in a year or two :)
WHy would they bother having Woman in White there - the whole point of the day is to sell tickets...

The cast isn't the problem. It's the material.

Also, Tom Galantich was Lawerence in Dirty Rotten Number.
It looked like it was a blast!

This event WAS held before the closing notice was posted. I believe Woman in White was there for exactly what you said... to sell tickets.
It's interesting how each show approached things differently. I guess there aren't actual rules on how staged your number can be? I mean, I understand the logistics with something like "Hairspray"- it would just be insane to fully costume/wig/makeup that many people- but Eden was fully done up while LaChanze wasn't nor were Tom and Jason... *shrugs* Dunno where I'm going with this. Just an observation in the end, I suppose.

With Wicked the costume and makeup is so much of the role that it definately makes a better presentation with it. Most shows did not perform in costume.
What was up with the wacky Hairspray choreography? I got a laugh out of that one.
#15re: Broadway Festival Video Up!!
Posted: 2/13/06 at 4:31pmwhen hairspray performs at those type of things (ryan secreat show, bryan park) they do some shorten verison of the dances. usually enda, and wilbur dont perform with the cast at those concert types things so i guess they have to change the choreography. i wish they woulda showed as andrew ='[

Posted: 2/13/06 at 5:08pmThanks for that! I'm new to the whole Broadway experience. So it was nice to get to see little clips from a bunch of different shows. I'll be honest Ring of Fire...not even close to what I was thinking it would be like.

Spelling Bee was the San Fransisco cast. Rent was AMAZING!
#18re: Broadway Festival Video Up!!
Posted: 3/6/06 at 7:20pmYeah, that was the San Francisco Spelling Bee cast. I think it's really funny that they were performing "Why We Like Spelling" though since that number isn't in the SF production.
#20re: Broadway Festival Video Up!!
Posted: 3/6/06 at 7:50pmI assume it was since they performed it at the festival. I've been to see the SF show three times and it wasn't there during previews even. I'll be going back this Saturday and I'll try and remember to ask them about it.

Posted: 3/6/06 at 10:40pmThe Broadway cast does the same thing. They've performed "Why We Like Spelling" at Broadway On Broadway and the Thanksgiving Day Parade, even though it's not in the show.

Wow, I didn't know that. I guess that's just how it goes then.
That's really too bad because I haven't seen a full performance of that song. Now I really wish I'd taped the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Posted: 3/7/06 at 11:38amThe song was cut before the transfer to Broadway because they wanted to make the show 1 act without intermission

Well, now I am definitely excited about seeing LESTAT when it opens. I know that a lot of you are saying that the material is bad, but they have been doing a lot of rewriting, it seems. Hopefully the finalized Broadway product will be a much more recognizeable story. I think that it is incredible material for a musical, and after the San Fran tryout, I think they have realized what they need to trim, cut, add, redo, etc., and I am going to remain optimistic until I have seen the finalized product! The bulk of the out-of-town reviews stated that the show was long and dull, giving too much of the historical background...They just need to let the material and characters speak for themselves. They have an entire preview period in front of audiences in which to bring the show into its best light, and I look forward to seeing the results!
See Ya!
