'A Stready Rain' hits the $1 million mark and lands in the top five
...
Broadway maintained its momentum last week, with a slew of new productions in previews, plus some major openers. Total grosses climbed to $17,947,578 for the 28 shows on the boards, up a little more than $90,000 from the previous session.
Final press nights and the comp-heavy opening caused a 5% drop for Daniel Craig-Hugh Jackman starrer "A Steady Rain," but the cop drama still managed to hurdle the $1 million mark and land in the top five -- a rare occurrence for a straight play...
******************************
I wonder when A STEADY RAIN will recoup? Variety earlier reported that it has a capitalization of $ 2.5 million, Michael Riedel says each actor is paid approx $ 100,000 per week, and Liz Smith quotes a $ 12 million advance sales in her column.
Has a show, musical or non-musical, ever sustained a $ 1 million per week at the box office from previews to end of run? How did Three Days of Rain do? Billy Elliot perhaps?

Wow, Hair went through a large capacity drop. At least their grosses aren't horrible.
I hate to say it, but I have a hunch that Shrek will announce a closing soon. With the constant ticket promotions (Shrekcation, Shrektember and now Shrektober), they seem to be really desperate to sell tickets.

Yeah, unless the investors just want to bankroll this thing, Shrek has to decide if the $$ from the holiday season will be greater than the massive losses they are incurring right now, and likely will incur for the next 6 weeks before the holiday season starts.
