This is off the charts disconnected from reality, and is leading you to a number of wildly incorrect assumptions. If you want to believe that more than 1% of Hadestown's audience are repeat viewers--let alone repeat viewers who would e repeating more frequently if only Eva/Reeve would move on--be my guest. Some people think the Earth is flat. What can ya do
Of course, as someone who has seen the show twice i would happily go again to see the right Hermes, Eurydice, Orpheus team. And i'm hoping the show runs long enough that I get to!
But a rush of sold out performances if, say, Nicholas Barasch replaces Reeve? Lol."
I am not knowledgeable enough to say how many people who see Hadestown now have seen it before. My guess is that the percentage is pretty low. My daughter was one, as she was seeing it for the third time (and the second time on Broadway). Her boyfriend, largely new to theater, had never seen it, just like he hadn’t seen Parade or Sweeney Todd or Chicago.
The problem for Hadestown isn’t that the show doesn’t fill the theater. It’s that tickets are now pretty cheap due to tepid demand. I was just concerned enough about Tony Awards Sunday (with so many new musicals closed) that I helped my daughter choose mezzanine seats in advance for $89 (plus $11 in fees). Fine seats, they reported. No reason to pay more.
