Just wondering if any one can think of a famous or infamous Musical that played for over three years but never recouped. What comes to mind for me is "Sunset Boulevard" the 1994 original, "Victor/Victoria" "Starlight Express" and "Jelly's Last Jam". Can anyone correct me if I'm wrong, and also please feel free to add your opinions.

On Broadway. Jellys Last Jam ran for around 18 months. Victor/Victoria also under two years. Same with Starlight Express. Also don't believe Sunset ran for three years either.

"Sunset Boulevard" is a unique case, though. It's been reported over the past 25 years that what kept the show in the red was the fact that he was paying two stars (Glenn Close, Patti Lupone) an enormous salary at the same time, with both salaries coming out of one box office. If he didn't have to pay off Lupone during the Broadway run, then the show would have been a financial hit. Again, don't know if it's 100% true - but it's been the general consensus from what I've read for the past 20+ years.
