They're Playing Our Song is not a two person musical. Neither is the Fantastiks:)

Wasnt the Rink two peeps? or would I just not notice anyone but Chita and Liza on stage?

Stevos, The Rink had a male chorus in it.
In addition to Chita and Liza, The Rink featured a younger version of Liza's character (who later serves as Liza's character's daughter in the finale), and I think, six wreckers, who played multiple roles all evening long, including female characters.

I would like to know the answers to this question when he gives it to you.
SO at this time you have
I DO, I DO
and what else?

BoxOfficeJon,
I Do! I Do!
Billy Bishop Goes To War
and BroadwayBulldog and I have had a debate over the third title.
so is the general consensus that ARCHY had a chorus?
and i thought we were searching musicals only, there are many "two-hander" plays.
What about those various Noel Coward and Gertie Lawrence shows with music (they have various titles)? i saw one in the West End with McKellen (i think). But maybe none of those has made Broadway yet.
Plays don't count. If they did you have "Frankie and Johnny" and that recent one (God help me, I canno remember the title) that Juliana Marguilis was in?
Megan, you should print this thread out and bring it to class. lol If anything, it's a good debate thread.
Alright, so I brought him the answers today and I won the DVD. The answers were:
A PARTY WITH BETTY COMDEN AND ADOLPH GREEN
I DO! I DO!
BILLY BISHOP GOES TO WAR
THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG
THE LAST 5 YEARS
Thanks for all your help!

Glad you won the DVD...my quibbles with the "answers" are:
SONG is not two characters, there was a chorus of 6, playing various other parts.
5 YEARS did not play on Broadway
COMDEN and GREEN, that's a tough one because there is a pianist on-stage (lines or no lines). And, I think the world of C&G.
As your musical theatre director defined the objective my humble opinion is that there are only 2TWO2 Broadway shows with no more than 2 people in them...I DO, and BILLY BISHOP.
But what do I know, I didn't win the DVD. Congrats!
Bulldog.
Could agree more Broadway Bulldog. However I'm glad you (we) won the DVD. So what was it anyway?

So if Last Five Years was accepted, then John & Jen should be accepted as well.
I'm glad you won, but those show's did not fit your post of BROADWAY MUSICALS.

Is there an ALW two person show?

Stevos,
What is ALW?
Maybe it's too early in the am for me but I can't figure that on out.
Thanks, Bulldog
I assume that ALW is Andrew Lloyd Webber.
And he does not have a 2 person show. He does currently have a one person show in the West End. There is a new version of TELL ME ON A SUNDAY with some new songs added that now plays as a complete show without the "dance" part of the "SONG and DANCE" show that was on Broadway and the West End in the 1980s. (which takes it back to its original concept - a one woman TV special for Marti Webb.)
Broadway Bulldog,
The 1970s Broadway revival of A Party with Comden and Green had no pianist onstage. Perhaps the original production did. On the cd of A Party with Comden and Green, there is likewise never any mention of or allusion to a pianist.
They're Playing our Song is indeed not a two person musical.
Great, I'm glad everyone knows more than everyone else on here. My teacher knows a lot more than most will ever know about musicals. The Last 5 Years won Tonys for Best Book, and Best Score. Whether it was on broadway or not, he still accepted it as an answer. Theyre Playing Our Song's original cast had just 2 people in it, no chorus no anything besides orchestra. As the years went on, yes it changed.
Thanks for correcting me
The Last Five Years won Drama Desk Awards, not Tony Awards. (The Drama Desk combines entries for Broadway and Off-Broadway shows). The Last Five Years played Off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre and was not eligible for Tony Awards. It was not a Broadway musical. Your teacher is wrong.
AND They're Playing Our Song's original Broadway cast had the two actors who play Vernon and Sonia, and three men and three women who play the "voices" of Vernon and Sonia. Though the voices of Sonia and Vernon have no dialogue, they do a lot of ensemble singing. (One of the original Sonia voices was Debbie Shapiro, later Debbie Gravitte). It was not changed over time. It's how the show was originally staged on Broadway. Though I didn't see the original Broadway cast, I saw replacements Tony Roberts and Anita Gillette and six other people on the stage of Broadway's Imperial Theatre with my own two eyes.
Everyone I apologize for "my" answers. My sister logged onto this website and got into my account. Shes quite unknowledged about broadway so I apologize if she said (which she did) some very untrue things about musicals. I hope that everyone accepts my apology, and I cant wait to learn more from everyone.

PS. I know all those things about Theyre Playing Our Song, and the Last 5 Years, so its not me thats the idiot, its my dear older sister. Thank you

Well maybe they're playing our song could count, if someone decided to use the extra voices, as pit singers.
STEVOS
So, Blanche, how is Baby Jane doing these days. We were all wondering whatever happend to her. Tell her to say off your computer, it is very rude.
Megan Marie, sorry, you are incorrect about the original production of They're Playin Our Song
