I am considering purchasing this volume. I am finding there are two editions but little information explaining their differences. The 2nd edition is from 2008 while the earlier one is from 2004. From what I have read on one Amazon review is the 2008 edition adds new material, but there are implications that it replaces material from 2004.
Is there anyone who owns, or has read through, both versions who could guide towards the best option? Should I relent and just get both? My primary interest is the photography so I want to be certain to get the complete work in those terms. If a paragraph or two of writing is missing in the 2008 I will live. The 2008 cover is a lot more attractive then 2004 giving it that much more edge.
Your advisement is appreciated!

You should get both.
The older edition is a larger hardback than the one you have pictured. So, besides being easier to read, it will withstand repeated readings without falling apart. (That is an important factor.)
And, as the first edition is several years old, you should be able to find relatively cheap. (Whereas, I bought the first one full price and am trying to find the new one on Ebay.)

I have the 2004 edition and love it, though I haven't seen the 2008. And Amazon lists a newly revised 2010 hardcover edition available for pre-order set for October release.
