Does anybody know how the photographers are chosen to take the 'official' shots of the show / cast? Or how photographers go about seeking such a job...?
Thanks!

There has been a monopoly on Broadway photography for many years. The honor used to belong to Martha Swope, and the mantle has since been passed on to her long-time assistant, Carol Rosegg.
It's nearly impossible for an independent freelance photographer to get a job working on Broadway, but if you're really interested, try contacting Carol Rosegg and apply to be her assistant.

What would be the best way to try and contact her?

Posted: 1/10/05 at 2:14amThis is true; Independent, freelance photographers don't typically get work photographing broadway shows. Once a press agent has worked with certain photographers for certain shows, they tend to call on them again and again for other jobs. Once you find someone whose work you like, you stick with them.

Le Poer Trench also happens to be Cameron Mackintosh's life partner, so obviously he gets first dibs on photographing Mackintosh's shows.

All the photos from benefits from the Actors' Fund performances are done by Jay Brady. When I would buy photos from him I'd simply loo through event albums on a charity website and tell him which I'd like to order
Great guy
