My guess is the Charleston, introduced in the 1923 musical Runnin' Wild. Music and lyrics by James Johnson and Cecil Mack. Produced by George White (of the 'Scandals' fame).

And no, I am NOT old enough to have seen the original production

hushpuppy, you are on top of dance steps.

The Charlston it is, and that was first seen at the New Colonial Theatre in 1923 in RUNNIN' WILD.

As I understand it, there were Charleston dances performed in Shuffle Along (1921) and the Ziegfeld Follies (1922), but the song "Charleston" was indeed in Runnin' Wild.
