Does anyone here have rock-solid, accurate info on the standard royalty pool structure for a Broadway musical, based on an existing book? I need to know what the standard split is ie book/music/lyrics and what the original author of the novel gets. I'm getting three different versions from lawyers, agents, etc and since several of the members are REALLY connected, I could use a third opinion.

I've linked an "Ask Playbill" that goes into a lot of detail I was hazy about, but admittedly doesn't really deal with underlying rights.

Profit pools are heavily subject to negotiation - depending on who is more famous or has a more powerful attorney, it's really up for grabs. If it's a famous book and non-famous people wanting to adapt it, the underlying rights holder can get a much better deal than if a famous writing team wanted to adapt something obscure. Add the director and choreographer and their lawyers into the mix, and you have fun for months on end.
