I am just curious with Broadway schedules, they seem to have slight nuances.
When a show is in preview and a lot will be soon, the majority have a schedule Monday - Saturday 8pm, however when a show opens the producers adjust the schedule normally Tuesday 7pm, Wednesday - Saturday 8pm, Sunday 3pm
Why is this? Where did this notion come from?
I'm sure that those in the business can offer real details, but I have always thought that they rehearsed and made changes etc on Sunday, but I'm not an "insider".
I believe it is designed to allow rehearsals, changes, press interviews and such to be done the weekdays.
It would seem most shows fine it better for business once they start running to play Sunday afternoons and take Mondays off. I wonder if any studies have been done to compare ticket sales for the two performance schedules.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
It's usually to allow for extra rehearsal time.
If they perform Monday to Saturday - with matinees Wednesday and Saturday - that leaves time for rehearsal during the day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
If they perform Tuesday to Sunday - with matinees Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday - they can only rehearse during the day on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
