I really think, on some silly level, that the poster for a show can be very telling about its success.
That being said, did anyone see the poster for LITTLE WOMEN? YUCK!!!
re: Broadway Show Posters#1

re: Broadway Show Posters#2
Posted: 9/26/04 at 10:08pmYes, the logo for Little Women is just ugly. I hope what you say is not true, because for some reason I really want the show to succeed.

Posted: 9/26/04 at 10:11pmI agree. Some people even decide not to see a show because of a "poster" on this web site. Go see it before you say anything.

Urinetown's poster wasn't a "wow".
But is was an excellent show, in my opinion.

Posted: 9/26/04 at 10:20pmWow! I was merely suggesting that it is a funny coincidence that the shows that succeed seem to have the best poster designs. I don't think anyone is suggesting that one should or should not see a show based on its poster.
re: Broadway Show Posters#9
Posted: 9/26/04 at 10:21pmUsing this logic, Brooklyn would not succeed either because we know its logo leaved much to be desired!
re: Broadway Show Posters#10
Posted: 9/26/04 at 11:10pmI guess it can be somewhat true, about successful shows usually having better posters, but again, you can't base a show merely on its logo.

Posted: 9/26/04 at 11:23pmThe recent revival of Assasins had the ugliest powerpoint poster on earth. For such an amazing show, i couldnt believe how little was paid attention to the show's logo. If you are right, this could be why this amazing piece of theatre closed so prematurely.

yeah i liked the 1991 logo just fine. the new one was like "eh!"
however i think my favourite poster art has to be Follies. but then again, that wasn't very successful.

Posted: 9/27/04 at 5:43amI agree that a poster should catch people's attention, but should not be the reason wheather or not one goes to see the show. It should wake your interest to find out what the show is all about. I think - and this is just my opinion - the most powerful musical poster I've ever seen is CATS, simple but very fascinating.

Theaterboy, Assassins was a limited run... it didn't close prematurely, and actually was extended because of its success...

Our friend who saw Brooklyn on friday night said that one of the characters has a line which should be added to the poster for the show. It would look something like this"
BROOKLYN
"If you don't like it, you can Kiss my Black A**"
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the Little Women logo looks good when on a black background.
And off the top of my head, I cant think of a logo that would be more appropriate. If someone is thinking about walking away from the show just because they didnt like the marquee, I think SUTTON FOSTER and MAUREEN MCGOVERN in big letters underneath with cancel that out.
...and I liked the Assassins revival poster

I agree about the fact that broadway posters should not decide whether or not to see the show...but here is what I think about the worst and the best:
Worst:
The Producers: I just hate this poster, just too boring
Caroline, or Change: great show, tacky poster
Little Women: I want this to be good (I really don't care about the poster), but I thought the shirts look nice.
Best:
Dracula: I think it is really detailed and gothic and suits the show very well.
Wicked: captures the eye
Brooklyn: I like the torn paper on the fence, I don't know I just really liked it since I first saw it. (The shirt Eden was wearing at Broadway on Broadway was nice, I hated the blue ones though, and the hats.)
La Cage Aux Folles: very fun and bright, just like the tone of the show.
Well that is what I think!
