Good news. They're looking for a Dec. release date!
Congratulations to Mr. McKay for following his dream & for his "never say die" persistence. Despite what most of his interviewees predicted would be a documentary that couldn't be done...he did it.
Am waiting with baited breath for what Rick said would be a series!
If the show at the Angelika & Sutton extends, RUN, DON'T WALK!

Rick McKay grew up in Beech Grove, IN which is not terribly far from where I live. It gives a kid hope I tells ya!
I am really excited for this documentary to come out. Maybe he'd have a special screening in Indiana. Well maybe not, but a guy can wish.

Posted: 6/21/04 at 1:07amWill this ever be shown in any other cities? Say, Los Angeles? I mean, we normally get all the so-called "artsy" films, and I want this one to come out here. Sorry to sound whiny, but this is like orgasmic film.

Posted: 6/21/04 at 1:22amIMDB only has release dates for NY & LA, so far. It's apparently been doing well at the box office here, so more dates might be forthcoming. I think Rick McKay has a website for the film -- see if you can find the link for it in one of the other threads.

Posted: 6/21/04 at 4:02pmI have e'd him re Toronto & he responded favourably but did not have a date. I really hope he can get it listed for the Sept Film Fest & open after. That would send it to the moon & back!

Posted: 6/21/04 at 4:09pmThat's very odd it's opening at such varried times in different cities, especially since they are looking at a Christmas release for the dvd.

Posted: 6/21/04 at 4:18pmPerhaps McKay only has a limited number of prints. Each print is very expensive for an independent company to have made and so it's not unusual to have this kind of release schedule for a low budget film in order to keep costs down (I can remember Margaret Cho sheparding what was at one time the ONLY print of "I'm The One That I Want" around the country).

Posted: 6/21/04 at 4:24pmNo, I understand that. But for a movie that's gotten so much praise as this, you'd think the studio would invest in more prints to send around the country.

Here in NYC, Rick has been taxi-ing back & forth in the eve's btwn the 2 theatres for Q&A's after the evening screenings. I'm wondering if this may account for the scheduling in other cities. Maybe he's planning on making other screenings for Q&A's.

Posted: 6/21/04 at 6:28pmI wonder which theaters will show it in DC if they really only have a limited number of prints then maybe I'll have go to a different indie theater.
