NBC has picked up the Broadway-centric series SMASH for the '11-12 season. It features a cast of various Broadway faces including Megan Hilty, Christian Borle & Brian D'Arcy James and the pilot episode was penned by playwright Theresa Rebeck. Original songs are composed by Marc Shaiman and Scott Whittman.
Obviously this one had more promise than John Logan's The Miraculous Year, which HBO passed on earlier this season.
Oh no. It's in NBC. I've lost any hope. Abandon show! Abandon show! I guess there's always the hope that it will somehow survive the terrible programming division there like '30 Rock' and 'Parks and Rec' have managed to.

NBC is such a fiasco right now that it is okay doing fine with 18-49 demos but the rest is just gravy/miracles. Fox is closer to the quick hook kind of network than NBC (their cancellations made yesterday were pretty brutal).
Fox's cancellations are brutal, but it just expects higher performances on its shows. Lie to Me would have been more than in the clear if it was on NBC. So, I guess it's good in the case that Smash gets a medium reception, as it will be able to coast for a while on less than stellar viewership ala Chuck.
