Posted: 7/27/07 at 6:21amHi, I dont know if its been officially announced over in USA, but over here in England at Helen Dallimores last show, I ran in to Miriam Margolyes in the lobby (our original Maddame Morrible) and we asked her what role she is playing next, and she told us that in January she is playing Maddame Morible on Broadway, so I dont know if that is because the producers thought she was amazing over here, which most viewers did not from what ive read and heard, or if she is very famous in America, she is very famous in England, so what do you guys know about her, and how do you feel about this change?

Well, I don't know if she's "very famous" over here, but she's a very recognizable character actress in movies.
She had memorable roles The Age of Innocence, Harry Potter, Romeo + Juliet, and was the voice of the dog in Babe.

She was also Professor Sprout in the second Harry Potter movie and if casting had followed the description of the character in the book, she should have played Delores Umbridge in the newest one.
I remember her as far back as the original British TV production of "She Devil" in the late 80's.

Well I hope you enjoy her, she is very talented and plays the role VERY well, although she does not sing, mearly peak the words, which is the one downside, but besdies that she is good!

Posted: 7/27/07 at 12:54pmShe was not hired to get people to come and see the show because she is 'name'. Wicked is already sold out.

Posted: 7/27/07 at 2:03pmThe part was written for her but she couldnt do the original Broadway run. A friend of mine is a principal in the London cast and told me this just a few weeks ago over dinner when i asked about how she 'spoke' the singing parts and thats when he said that it was to be her in the first place.

Posted: 7/27/07 at 2:31pmrumors get started all the time - just because someone is an actor in a show doesnt' make them the "world's authority" on that show.

Posted: 7/27/07 at 2:33pmDoesnt make my friend a liar either. My friend has worked on two other shows with the diretor of Wicked. This guy is not in the habbit of making things up as many do on this site.

Yes your friend who was in the original cast of Wicked is wrong. This is coming from somebody who was at the first workshop of Wicked and every other workshop and somembody who got his information from one of the creative team members who knows a hell of a lot more information than you do or any cast member.
And I never said that your friend was a liar I just said he was wrong.

Posted: 7/27/07 at 2:55pmAs the earlier post states, she's not as well known in the states as in the UK therefore maybe you didnrt recognize her name when it was mentioned in the workshops. She didnt do any workshops or the like its that she was the first choice for Mdm Morrible.

Posted: 7/27/07 at 3:07pmI know exactly who she is and I know exactly who the part was written for and it isn't her. In fact the person who it was written for might be joining one of the company's soon.

You could've fooled me....

Posted: 7/27/07 at 3:54pmI love the character of Madame Morrible. Love it. Carole has been the best for me. Absolute best. So...my question remains, for whom was it originally written???

Posted: 7/29/07 at 12:17amOkay then...if the originally intended Morrible can't be disclosed on the board, can someone PM the answer to my question? Thanks.

Posted: 7/29/07 at 2:43pmI believe Carole Shelley will be making a return visit before Miriam steps into the role.

Posted: 7/30/07 at 9:13amMargolyes is brilliant - on screen and on stage. I saw her first in the Peter Hall Orpheus Descending with Redgrave in London and she recreated that role for the television production. She received acclaim for her work in the films Little Dorritt and The Age of Innocence. I particularly enjoyed her work in Ladies in Lavender.

"Wicked is already sold out."
Wicked is probably sold out for the next few months, but I'm sure it's not that difficult to get tickets a months in advance (especially for a January show).

Posted: 7/30/07 at 10:12amMiriam will be great for you guys, but it makes me wonder why she is going to Broadway to do the role? It just seems a bit strange to me. I am probably just thinking to much into it.
