Broadway.com Lestat video diaries

Has anyone been watching the video diaries about retooling Lestat on Broadway.com? I think they are really interesting and I am actually getting very excited for this show. I really like the set designer diary. His work was amazing!

Also did anyone see the book writer alking about how she would be an imortal and kill everyday to survive if she could? That woman really creeped me out!

re: Broadway.com Lestat video diaries

I started a thread about this a little while ago.

This is a really awesome thing they're doing. Especially since there is almost a blog per day.

Do any of these video diaries feature Carolee? I don't want to watch them all just to find she's not in any of them.

re: Broadway.com Lestat video diaries

There are some short video clipits from the show itself that she is featured in. But as for interviews, not yet. She's supposed to be in them in the future though.

Playbill.com is also doing a great job providing new videos on a constant basis featuring cast and creative.

If you're intrigued by the show, definitely take a look!

Yeah, I saw those as well. Sort of boring by comparison...and nowhere near as frequent or fresh.

If you think the blog is boring, wait until you see the show. A real snoozefest!

Im actually excited for the show. I just think Hugh's video diaries are way more exciting then the pre-fab playbill stuff. :)

re: Broadway.com Lestat video diaries

Not as fresh? The show isn't even on Broadway yet LOL

And they have 6 interviews to Broadway.com's 8 - I'd hardly call that "nowhere near as frequent"

To each their own. If someone is interested in the show, they'll enjoy any and everything they can watch, see pictures of and read with any biases aside.

Craig:

I think what people are referring to is the general tone of the pieces on Playbill vs. those on Broadway.com. The Playbill pieces seem made by the production, which seems very likely as Playbill doesn't produce original video segments. The Broadway.com videos are more unique and less promotional. In terms of frequency, Playbill does one a week and it looks like Broadway.com is doing about three a week. I'm not sure what your investment is in all of this, other than the usual "BWW is better than Broadway.com" nonsense.

To be fair, I think what Broadway.com is doing is pretty substantial. I just wish they were doing it with a show that I cared about. Having said that, I think that producer comes off better than expected and he's got a pretty solid reputation out here on the West coast.

I also like that the production team is aware of the faults of the show, and seem to be trying to fix them.

re: Broadway.com Lestat video diaries

Yes, Bobby. The openness in the videos is refreshing. Now let's see what they can actually do with it!

Al

Amount of coverage is amount of coverage. I wasn't talking about dates. It's neither here nor there. And I certainly wasn't pointing out nor trying to foster any tone of competition. Certainly other posters here seem to be implying that - but not me.

I was merely pointing out that for fans of the show - there are TWO places they can go.

Al - as you and everyone should know - the internet doesn't work like, for example, the retail market. If a visitor visits this site, playbill.com, broadway.com or theatermania (and any other site you care to fill in the blank) that doesn't prevent them at all from going to the other sites. If I bought a pair of jeans at the GAP, walking down the street I would probably not go into Banana Republic to buy jeans if I already had them. If someone likes lestat, wicked, rent or whatever and they want to see photos, interviews, videos, etc they will go to any and all places that have information about them.

I know you're smart enough to know this already. As I said - to each their own. You can prefer one set of videos over another. But there's no harm in informing people that both exist.

It is intersting that on both threads that I mentioned the playbill.com videos that a similar reaction was caused. Seems to me like there are other people who are considering this competitive. Not I :)

Craig:

I get the retail analogy and I think you know that at the end of the day I find it all sort of silly. There is room for all of you. I'm not a big fan of Playbill, though, and loathe how safe their Lestat stuff is. That's all.

I agree there's room for us all and have never implied or stated otherwise - have I? It is extremely silly!

The costume design interview on Playbill.com was real interesting. I wish we got to see some examples of what she was talking about, but I guess they want us to shell out the money to see it.

Dirty Rotten Guy, I agree it was interesting but I wanted them to show the some sketches or the costumes from previews etc.

They just posted another Panaro diary. It's the best one so far in my opinion. Jim Stanek cracks me up :)

It's great to see Jim in his natural bubbly mode, in the show he very distressed and depressed.

I really hope other shows follow suit and do blogs like this. Can you imagine if the Sweeney revival had done this? It would have been facinating.

re: Broadway.com Lestat video diaries

The addition today was great, awesome interview.
I am also very glad that they added the option to ask Panaro some questions. Its cool how devoted he is to the fans.

Now I am so excited for next week, I want to see the theater and some of the full sized sets so bad. Cant wait!

Gah...I want to ask him if he'll marry me. Those dimples are too much!

Seriously folks, that last diary was really funny. I couldn't get it to load all the way at first but when I got through it was well worth it. :)
