Is she a singer? Does anyone know?? I know Delta wasn't either, but I'm just curious!

Yes. She has made many nightclub appearances over the years.
(She also displayed her singing talents on Designing Women from time to time).
I've heard her name but I'd never actually seen her or watched on her on any TV show. She looks perfect for the part, and I'm guessing she could act it.
Meers isn't that difficult of a singing role, anyway. "They Don't Know" is very simply sung, or talked through if the actress isn't that amazing of a singer.
Sounds like a very good idea!
The touring Meers (can't think of her name at the moment) tore the roof off the place with Muqin. A good voice definitely helps the part. Dixie does have a good voice, though I haven't heard her sing in years. Hope she's been keeping it in shape.
Dixie has a beautiful voice - one of my favorite episodes of Designing Women is when she is cast in a community theatre production of Mame - I think she'll make a great Meers.
She'll be wonderful.
Matt, I am ashamed you don't know Hollis Resnick! She is a Chicago regular and if you don't know her name from here, you should at least know it from what's-her-name's journal!
I'm new to Chicago, so I don't most of the performers. I have heard her name before, but I've been out of touch for a while.
Mister Matt- I'm shocked. She is sooooooooooo cool.

My Dixie Carter experience. About 20 years ago, when I was currently working with a fomer B-way feline. I won't name names, BB. I was in LA and got a call from Dixie Carter's assistant asking me to come to her home in the Hancock Park area of LA and audition. She was looking for a pianist/musical director for a new act she was putting together. I got there and the house was filled with Turkish servants dressed in white, all wearing turbins and serving tea and stuff. It was the most bizarre scene. We sat in her music room for a few hours as her vocal teacher and her husband "sized me up". It was so uncomfortable. Anyway, I got the gig and when the former feline found out, she went "off" on me as she felt I needed to be exclusive to her. So being the wimp that I was back then. I caved into the cat, got a huge raise from her and had to quit whistling Dixie. It was ok, I wasn't into her repertoire anyway. And it was scary at her house. That's my story. Believe me, that cat has claws.
You got the scars to prove it?

I actually quit working with her after years of abuse. It never went that far but let me tell you, it could have.
On that note...

OK I'm slow and also dying to know who it was. not sure what BB stands for? I wouldn't mind a PM
So who's next after Dixie? Annie Potts or Jean Smart? hahahah j/k
How does that Forbidden Broadway song go again?.....
"You've lots of Kelsie Grammar's, Cheryl Ladd's, and Dixie Carter's!" lol
All joking aside, I think she'll be very good in the role.

Carter did a few off Broadway musicals as well as a Broadway PAL JOEY revival (she was Melba) in the 70s.
Great post Podium Person. I have friends who also run from your former employer. People would literally run into their offices when she showed up at their place of employment.

Isn't it interesting that everyone who knows her has a similar experience?
It's astounding...
I feel better now that I know who you're talking about. lol I didn't know she was that scary; which is why I didn't think it was her.

I think Dixie Carter is a wonderful choice for the role.

Oh yeah, this thread is about Dixie. I bet she'd be great in that role too. Updated On: 1/19/04 at 01:28 PM
