Hello all! I am a high school girl who is looking for a talent for a regional scholarship program. I sing with a fairly extensive range which I would like to display and want to do a Broadway song - either a ballad or a fast song which I can choreograph a tap break into. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
I agree with sabrelady's ideas. Those would be great. I also think "I Got The Sun in the Morning and The Moon at Night" from Annie Get Your Gun would work. You could also do "42nd Street".
Tackle That Tempation with a Timestep from "Nunsense"
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
Always True to You (In my fashion) is one of my favorites. But it really depends on if you want a more well known song or a less known song. There are plenty of good ones on both sides of the coin.
I bet you could choregraph a tap dance number into "Rose's Turn" from Gypsy, lol. You could always just get up there and do the "Hot Honey Rag" from Chicago...although it's usually done by 2 people, I guess it could be done individually. Even though there's no show stopping song during it.
Check out the song "Buenos Aires" from Evita. There is a musical break written into song. I have the 20th anniversary edition CD set, and you can also purchase the Musical Excerpts Complete Libretto. It is very rhythmical, and it would set you apart from the rest, because the song is very demanding and not always used in tap repertoire.
