In New York, anyway, on this network called NJN. Go!

I just put it on and Fiddler on the Roof is playing.
Crap, sorry. It's on a PBS-related network; I edited.
They have this on DVD in a store here, I have been hesitant to buy it, yes, it has lots of big names on it, but HOW much footage? Is it complete like "Broadways Lost Treasures"?? I really would like to know before I buy it and go "aaaaaarrrggggghhh".

I was watching it, but they're up to only the 1930's and apparently a new show comes on next. I've been watching it for 3 hours in hopes that they would get to the newer footage (Cabaret, etc.). Darn.
What kind of footage are you talking about? I saw it on PBS when they had their phone-a-thon thing... They have a bunch of really neat clips of some of the more modern shows, nothing much from the oldies. They don't really show any full scenes. Just clips. I loved it, and if I had $80 to spend on it (at Barnes and Noble... I'm sure I can find it for less) I'd get it in a heartbeat. I learned a lot about Bway, the shows, the writers, everything. I'd get it!
This is one of the most lackluster documentaries ever. No song or sequence is shown in full length. The clips shown are mostly from movies and TV, rarely rare and the information is nothing new. Not to mention that Julie Andrews hosts it as if we don't know who she is or what the hell Broadway is either.
I was disappointed with this documentary as well. I was hoping it would be like one of Ken Russell's serial documentaries, a la THE CIVIL WAR.
I adore this documentary! Forget that there wasn't alot of footage or full song clips! There was so much great information concerning the beginnings of Broadway from the history of black-face, vaudeville ect...
i felt that they should have had more extras, but it was great to watch, I've seen it like four times.
I have the DVD and there are a couple full performances on the extras. (My favorite of course is of Irving Berln's "This is the Army") Soldiers dressed in drag. It is quite hilarious to me given the Army's current "Don't ask Don't Tell" policy. They would never allow their soldiers to do something like that now as they had done in that show.

I honestly cant count the amount of times I rewatched the 5th and 6th installments I taped when it was first aired. Its such a great special
I also own and love this documentary. In a class at the college I went to in their musical theater history class, they used the book of the documentary as their textbook. I really should take teh class because I watched it 10000 times. I cry everytime the part about Rent comes on, and cant watch the live performance extra of Sunday by Larson
