Brooklyn 11/26 and 11/27

Posted: 11/29/04 at 12:39pmHey everyone. I just got back from New York, and it was so fun! My family had tickets to go see Brooklyn on Friday the 26, and I really enjoyed it! I have to agree that the storyline is not much, but the cast is AMAZING! I think they are definitely the most talented people on broadway. I would pay over and over again just to hear them sing. The show was sold on Friday night, and it was packed with people who bought standing room only also. I was happy to see that. I enjoyed the show so much Friday night, that I got a ticket to see it Saturday again. It was great Saturday too, and it was another sell out. Eden rocked the house both nights with her huge voice. Everyone, go see it. If not for the story, then just see it to hear this amazing cast. They are truly the most talented group of people.

I saw it on the 25th. I was very un-impressed with the book and lyrics, but they truly were amazing performers. There were times seeing it that I literally went "did they really just say that?" because the lyrics/dialogue were so bad, but it was worth the $35 I paid to see Eden and company. Mark Shoenfeld was there and he was signing autographs. I had the unfinished lullaby in my head all weekend, yeah, about that...
In regards to standing ovations, I'd say about half the audience stood up.

Posted: 11/29/04 at 5:37pmI'm still undecided about this show. I'll admitt I was excited about it until I heard and read reviews. Now I don't know whether or not I should venture to see "Brooklyn".

I saw it for the first time after reading all the bad reviews and I went in with a very very very closed mind, and I left almost hating it. However, I knew my opinion was biased so I saw it again the other week and I actaully enjoyed it. So for those of you who don't want to see it because of the reviews, don't base it on that.
Go in appreciating it for what it it, and look past the story, and you'll have a good time...

Posted: 11/29/04 at 5:43pmThat's basically what I've been hearing about this show: Great performances, but book and music not so much. That's why I'm looking forward to the CD!

Posted: 11/29/04 at 5:44pmThat's my only fear. That'll I go in hating and be biased.

The same thing happend to me with Dracula.
I heard all the negative reviews of the critics..
Some of them even called it Drekula,
But when i went to see it for the first time i loved it!
So you should really see it, and then decide for yourself.

LittleSally... I honestly know exactly how you feel, haha.
The only advice I can give you is to look past the story, and enjoy the actor's overall performances.

I saw "Brooklyn" in preview and had heard none of the bad reviews before seeing it so I don't feel that I was influenced by anyone.
Yes, the singers are good and yes, the story is pretty bad and some of the lyrics are so trite that you can't believe that a professional actually wrote those words.
I do intend to get the CD. I don't mind putting out the $13.99 that it would cost me to get it from Amazon.com. I will not, however, pay any more than that to sit in a theatre and watch the show again.
The best thing about the show, IMHO, is listening to some of the songs and I can do that from the comfort of my home (or car) and then I can go to the theatre to see something that I feel would actually be worth a trip to the theatre.

Posted: 11/29/04 at 8:17pmI saw Brooklyn yesterday. The show was not sold out. There were plenty of empty seats. The voices of the performers made the show bearable. Less than half the audience gave a standing ovation. The costumes were idiotic. The cd might be worth listening to.

I was at the 11/27 too! I was sitting in the front box on the right side. The show was much better than I thought it was going to be. I was expecting something like RENT but it was 10 times better. Eden's voice just left me with chills the entire time. She is just fantastic!!!
I was also at the stage door and got autographs!

"I was expecting something like RENT but it was 10 times better."
Now that's the funniest thing I've heard all year.

The rush tickets are 26.25 and they sell them when the box office opens at 10 am.
I went about 2 weeks ago around 9:50 and got two AMAZING seats.
But I know it depends on the day. There were only 2 other people waiting when I went. I would suggest going around 9, see if there are any people waiting. If not go get some cocoa and come back in like 30 minutes or so. But like I said, it depends on the day.

Posted: 11/30/04 at 1:09pmI saw the show on Saturday afternoon and like some people I was excited to see the show, but was afraid because of the reviews it got. I must say I was extremely impressed. I respect everyone's opinions, and do agree that the book is not original at all, but I thought the music was excellent. Not to mention I loved the sets, and (don't hate me for saying this but) I also loved the costumes. With having this particular setting of the show I thought the creativity was awesome in its visual representation. As for the cast they were totally out of this world, and the entire audience gave a standing o at the end of the show. Hope their success continues!
