Brooklyn Review 7/22/06 Houston, TX

Hi, I'm new to the board.

I went to see Brookyln with some theatre friends and my mother and grandmother. One of the things that appealed to us was Melba Moore being in the cast. Another was that it was free.

I came to the show with some expectations already, seeing how a lot of people don't think this is the best of shows.

The set was kind of cool and different. It was well put together.

The first number was rough. They were all pitchy. But as the night went on they became way better.

Diana Degramo was a big suprise. I knew she had singing ability, but her acting was just as good. (No wonder she was in Hairspray and West Side Story.) She completely blew me away. I hope she gets more roles in the future.

Melba Moore was amazing. In one of her numbers, at the end, she holds this amazingly high note for I don't know how long. But throughout the night she stumbled over her lines a bit.

The rest of the cast was awesome and gave a great performance. The costumes were creative, as they were junk.

I can see the flaws in this show. Like how there are several parts that remind me of Rent and seem like your being preached to.

But overall I enjoyed this show. It was fun.

You can search for mine on here from the Atlanta stop. But I agree about Melba Moore's note. She's got some stamina for her age.

I've seen this tour. I really enjoyed it. There are several reviews here - just use the search function and you'll find them. (Mine's the super-long one.) I loved the show, and especially Diana doing Little Brooklyn's voice.
