This is the sort of thing (scheduled for the fall at Berkeley Rep and then NYC and Boston) that makes me quiver in antici ... pation. Sounds like a not-to-be-missed show by people who aren't in the business of insulting children or the adults who take them to the theater!
Brundibár by Tony Kushner (libretto)‚ Hans Krása (music) (Nov. 11-Dec. 2
Berkeley Rep artistic director Tony Taccone (bridge & tunnel) will stage the work adapted from Adolf Hoffmeister's libretto for the Hans Krasa children's opera. Maurice Sendak ("Where the Wild Things Are") provides sets and costumes for the new take on the story of two children who try singing in town to help their ailing mother. Brundibár (slang for bumblebee) "is expected to transfer to New York and Boston in 2006," according to a release.

oooh. Interesting. yay!
On a separate note - 9 Parts of Desire will be at Berkeley Rep, too. Congrats to Heather Raffo - that's an amazing piece.

I'm not sure of your knowledge of history, but BRUNDIBAR was first performed at Tereseinstadt during WWII. It was designed as a children's opera and performed by an all children's cast. It runs approximately 45 minutes. A very nice and likeable musical piece--much more of a historic relic--that bespeaks a very horrific time. But it is not a new musical by any means. There is a recording out. I have it. Again, pleasant listening but really nothing more. Are they going to inflate it to 2 hours. I would be curious to know.

You're right, that's an inaccurate subhead on this thread.
I'd change it to "the new kushner et al adaptation" but people would be wondering who this new Et Al is.
I think the whole thing will be interesting and look forward to seeing whatever they come up with!
