I think E! News Daily repeats the next morning at 9 or something...not to sure, but I think it usually airs again then.
I'll post here, I guess.
Well. Wow. I arrived at the Today Show in time to hear Adam and Anthony doing a soundcheck for What You Own - thrilling to walk down the block and hear those beautiful voices getting closer and closer. Before embarking upon the block-long line, I stopped for a minute to watch them sing, and let me tell you - the only thing worse than an insane RENThead is the MOTHER of an insane RENThead. This woman gave my friend and I such attitude about being there, because she thought we were cutting the line - we had no intention of doing so, I wanted to see. Way to kill my elated state, lady.
Anyway. I was on the back side of the stage, but very close, so I can't complain much. The performances were beautiful. It was kind of astounding, really - I was too young to experience this all the first time around, so this sort of "second generation" wave of RENT-mania... it's nice to be there for it, even if people aren't totally sane. I mean, crazy people singing La Vie Boheme isn't really what I need at 7 a.m., but whatever, it made them happy. However, there was this one girl who was trying so desperately to get Adam's attention that I thought she was going to tumble over the barricade - hysterical. She was so over-zealous, I just wanted to hide.
Everyone looks incredible (as does the poster art!); they all look so young and happy. Idina, for those concerned, sounds rested and very, very good. I've never truly seen Anthony sing before, save for a few lines on the film set, so this was a great, long-anticipated first. Jesse and Tracie kicked ass on their solos (Wilson did Jesse's in the park, also did very well). And Adam... Adam... looks phenomenal. You all can see the pictures. And, he sounds as great as ever - even at 8:30 in the morning.
The cast signed so many autographs after the performance, and it was extremely kind of them to be so patient. My side of the stage caught Adam and Idina, and you can all imagine how thrilled I was about the former. It was a total pleasure just to get to say hi, which meant a ton after so many months.
Watching the cast together again was incredible; to see that bond that's clearly so integral to the movie, and the fact that it's surely turned out well.
Migrated to Bryant Park, braved the crazy heat. The cast rehearsed a bit for the 100 or so people that were there - it was really sweet and intimate; the crazy fans were there, but at least there weren't a zillion of them. Until today, I've never experienced "true" RENTheads before - I don't think I fully realized how squealy, screaming and... kind of scary they are - I'm so shy, so it sort of catches me off guard. I just stood in my spot to the side of the front section, smiling away, videotaping. I suppose we share a love for the show, but... I just don't really see the point in expressing is *quite* the way they do. I don't particularly want to badmouth, so honestly, whatever floats the proverbial boat.
The performance gave me chills. By the time they came out, the crowd was big enough to get a "HOLY SH*T!" from Adam, who looked totally stunned. And even amidst the insanity, there was a certain warm, fuzzy feeling about being there - being a part of this. Once they came out on stage, people swarmed the area right in front of the stage where they weren't supposed to be, but they were pretty out of control. I went to the area where the actors were signing autographs, but the crowd was so deep that it was virtually impossible to get near any of them - eventually it seemed like the security had just had it with this all and got them the hell out of there. A bit disappointing, I guess, since this all is so out of control, but it made me a lot more thankful that I went this morning - got to see who I wanted most to see.
A final note to anyone who is expecting some sort of media from me - a few tecnical glitches came my way. My iPod seems to have overheated, and of course did so in the middle of Seasons of Love. So, I am audio-less. And the iPod is still behaving VERY strangely... I'm so sorry to anyone to whom I promised an audio recording. Hopefully I'll be able to post my photos tomorrow... I'm still experiencing some computer mishaps. I took more at the Today show, though most are at a funny angle. I ran out of space on my camera at Bryant Park, but I'm SURE pictures of that have surfaced absolutely everywhere.
So, yes. All-in-all, a fantastic day, total once-in-a-lifetime experience. Anthony, if you're reading this, thank you to you and the entire cast for being so wonderful and committed, and for giving a truly kick-ass performance today. You all are incredible. This was all absolutely worth waking up at five in the morning, and braving the heat. I was in the Nederlander box office tonight, tagging along with some friends who were picking up tickets. I had one of those odd moments again; it's so... real.
today was amazing

Rosario's mom is adorable. We said bye to her but called her Rosario's mom and she goes "it's Isabel, bye girls! be good!" haha
They were all signing until some wack-job press guy was pushing and yelling becuase he wanted to take pictures but needed a different ID. He literally pushed and was fighting so they all stopped. He ruined it for everyone!!
performance was awesome. I saw it from the front side..by the reserved area but we sat on the floor. I'm in the bway.com picture(the that's hot girl) haha
seriously what an amazing day.
emcee...
I agree about being scared of the RENTheads. I, too, am a very shy person and I was getting kinda scared. The thing that amazed me though, and this I don't mean this in a disrespectful way, because I know there are a lot of young people on this board and I love you all!!, but a lot of the "crazy" fans that I saw around me were young, like 14, 15 years old. It makes me feel old knowing that these people were only like 5 when the show opened.
It's all good though...I had a wonderful time...emcee...where were you sitting? I was there by myself most of the time, not really knowing how to find anyone from BWW, but I did meet up with JACXR right before the performance started...
I was expecting some scary things from what I've heard about "Rentheads" but I was okay amongst them. I didn't really mingle with too many of them, but I was sitting amongst them and everything seemed fine. I saw a lot of signs that people made. I was concerned that they were going to hold them up during the performance and block my view. Fotrunately they did not, so I was happy.
Well, I guess the pick-up of RENT fans is sort of like a revolving door; I mean, I didn't see it for my first time until I was almost seventeen. I'm nineteen now. I'm actually pretty new to it all.
But it's weird, I mean, I have that "OMG I LOVE RENT" sentiment, I guess, but I'm just a lot quieter about it. It was so bizarre to watch people squeal at Adam today - when he came to me, I could barely squeak anything out. Maybe it's just that I don't know how people are so outgoing... or how it's not embarassing to behave so oddly... or... I don't even know. Different strokes!
The chaos is just a bit to get used to.
such an amazing time! Me and my four friends and my mom and bdwaygirl all came out to stand the heat to be part of this once in a lifetime experience. After scoping the situation once we got there,we wanted to see if we could catch the cast before they talked to the press, and somehow we saw were they were going to be coming from and we basically walked toward that black tent with them. I told Adam and all the rest of them good luck, and Adam looks at me and says thank you. I melted haha. They were outstanding, in the 100zillion degree heat, I got goosebumps during seasons of love. TMOLM was great, but it seemed idina was holding back somewhat. Can't say I blame her, but they were both outstanding nevertheless. You could see that they were all having so much fun and there was so much love in that park today. From the fans to the performers and the performers to the fans and everyone to everyone haha. We ended up getting Anthony's signature which was great. If you are reading this Anthony let me just truly say thank you to you for taking the time to sign as many autographs as possible. You are truly an amazing actor and such a wonderful person, thank you so much.
The rest of the show was outstanding too. It was very inspirational to see the Fiddler on the Roof dance and the Lion King dance again. I saw them at the easter bonnet this year and was in awe and today they didn't disappoint. It was fantastic.
All in all it was just a great day in the Park and I was so happy I got to go and experience this. It was such an amazing day.
oh and anyone that watched the Today Show, when they showed that like 15second clip of Anthony and Adam in the apartment it made me so happy. Ah I can't wait for November!
Em, coming from someone who well once was shy but now no longer is, I can still agree and think it's more than your personal shyness. It's just...no matter how much I lvoe something, I dont' find the need to scream and jump. Maybe scream at a Yankee game or for a performer that I think did amazing, but not to that degree..
Especially when it comes to talking...I definitely either go to the extreme of being so happy and in shock I can't talk(used to happen a lot, now would only be saved for someone like my Gerry...) or just very open about expressing my love and appreciation like I did with Anthony, or Idina at the rent set when we were there.
Actually...you know what people were saying about you being one of the most obsessed Rent fans and how you'd never win b/c you're not loud and stuff? I think it's sad that the biggest fan or so is the loudest, screamiest, you know? Passion is passion, however directed, and personally I think some of the more quieter ones may be even more passionate than the screamers. But society has a way of potraying fanatics, some more positive, the quiet passionate ones, other more obsessive, the screaming ones, and those are the ones they use to present open obsessiveness. Ah well. At least everyone has good taste.
Well, I'm hardly the show's biggest fan, squealy or not. But somehow, I think what's going to win this thing is someone who's over the top about it; not someone who's articulate, but subdued - which is sort of how I am about all of this stuff. I have more to say that "OMGILOVERENTADAMISSOHOT!" and maybe so do these kids, too, but... they just act so... odd and scary. Either way, I wouldn't try; I'm totally not what they're looking for - and that's fine; I hate that sort of attention!
Ehh, I think now I'm not talking about the contest, but just the way we view fanatics in general(I took half a course on this...) Someone like you would be viewed more positively from general society, b/c you come across as passionate not obsessed, but would probably not be considered as much of a big fan as those who go into the OMG, etc.
I guess stereotypically when we think of biggest fans of things we do think of those kinds of people,a nd I think it's very important to remember the people who appreciate things in a different way. Ehh, I better stop now, when I start getting all philisophical, it takes a lot to shut me up...
OmG!!! LiKe I'm sOOOOOOOO wInNiNG tHaT FriGGin' ConTeST!! LiKE I evEn hAvE a RenT LoGo ToiLeT SeaT To ProVE I'm The BIGGEST FriGGin' FAN!!! OMG!!! IdiNA MeNZeL 4Ever and EVER and a DaY!!! LOL!!! OMG!!! TeeeHeee Heee!!! FoR ReAL!!!!
Haha Marquise...didn't MTV have a show "fanatic" or something where the most proven obsessed fans got to interview them and they all were basically the kind of fans Marquise mentioned? Again, representative of our sterotypical society...
