Bucks County has their new season brochure out. It looks like a great season. Godspell, Seussical, Into the Woods, Urinetown, The Graduate, Miss Saigon, Aida, Ragtime, Music Man, Full Monty, Hot Mikado, La Cage, Hair, Big, and White Christmas. And the best part is...only ONE "Star". Kim Zimmer from "As the World Turns" is playing Mrs. Robinson in the Graduate. They also are having 2 one night concerts with Melba Moore and Marilyn Michaels. I hope they keep the stars out of the season...they were terrible. For more info you can go to the link below.

Posted: 11/26/05 at 5:46pmI find the White Christmas choice interesting. Have the rights for the new Berlin show that is being done in San Fran, LA, and Boston been released already? And Kim Zimmer is doing the Graduate twice? Hopefully the star salaries will be invested in costumes, wigs, sets and lights.

Posted: 11/26/05 at 5:49pmIt does look like a very packed but thrilling season. And last I checked Kim Zimmer has played Reva on GUIDING LIGHT for twenty some odd years now Not AS THE WORLD TURNS.

Posted: 11/26/05 at 8:32pmSorry, I was thinking of Colleen Pinter who played Dolly this year. I am the most excited for Urinetown and the Graduate. They seem to have a theme of nudity this season. 3 shows (Hair, Full Monty, and the Graduate). I also believe that all but 3 or 4 shows next season are new for them. The new shows tend to have decent sets and costumes. It is the shows they have been doing for 10 or 20 years that the sets drops and costumes have been around since the first time they have done them. Anything more recent (Will Rogers, Kiss me Kate) have had great production values. I hope they do the shows justice and bring back some of those talented kids they have working there.

Posted: 11/26/05 at 9:16pmI agree. This season does look very interesting, and my all means - leave the "stars" home and let those talented kids do their thing. They've been the real draw for these productions for years.

I go many times every year - for some twenty odd years now, actually. Productions can be absolutely fantastic there, or downright embarrassing, but always interesting. Generally speaking, the "stars" are not that great - they are unnecessary draws. I just worry with such a "modern" season on slate that they'll end up cancelling half the shows they have planned - they've done that in years past.
The thing that's great about BCP is I saw MANY MANY shows there over the years that filled in my knowledge of musical theater history - everything from Pirates of Penzance through R&H, Lerner and Lowe etc. through modern shows. I wouldn't love theater as much as I do, nor know as much as I do, if it weren't for my parents taking me to BCP for years.
Best of luck with the season next year!

i, too, find the choice of white christmas interesting. i checked the r&h website, and the rights are restricted. i highly doubt they will be doing the irving berlin 'white christmas' that's playing in LA, boston, and san fran.

You make some great points, jasonf. I've been going there on and off for a very long time, too, and I agree with the quality of the shows - from fabulous to cringing in my seat. Still, their young, non-equity cast/chorus usually does an outstanding job. Talented, enthusiastic and committed to doing their best. It's the "stars" who phone in their performances, too often. I'm looking forward to seeing their modern slate, too. I also agree that the diversity of their program has given me the chance to be exposed to shows I might otherwise have skipped.
New Hope is a great town, but I have to admit, I liked it better when all of those funky, less trendy shops were there. There used to be a neat Moraccan place over by the train station. Gone now. And Meow,Meow. Gone, too, and several others.Opps! Sorry I got off-topic.

Funny, I've never seen a good production there. Community theater productions are better than the nonsense they put on.

Posted: 11/27/05 at 7:57pmWell What have you seen there? I have seen dozens of productions and I haven't always been impressed with the sets always but the performers and always amazing. I would never compare it to community theatre...unless you saw My Way or any of the other star shows. The likes of Louis Palena, his sister Jill, Tressa McCallister, Jessica Bradish, Amy Lynn Zanetto, Jim Lynch, Peter Martino, and Damian Bartolacci are all amzingly talented...more so than many other professionals. Just becuase they don't have the money of a major broadway show or a huge theatre. they do a good job with what they have.

Posted: 11/27/05 at 9:07pmGypsy was one of those star shows...there isn't much for the talent they have...jill was a great June...but the Tulsa was awful...so was Joyce's Niece as Luise.

Posted: 11/27/05 at 9:41pmI saw JCS there and was shocked that this is what passed for "professional" theater. It was awful.

I have seen at BCP....
Grease
Jekyll and Hyde
Joseph...
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Footloose
Fiddler on the Roof
All of which were AWFUL. I feel bad for the cast that has to work there.
And yes, I have seen community productions that were miles better than what BCP does.
