I was at 9to5 as well last night (April 11th 8PM). Since everyone has pointed out all the great things about the show. I will point out tiny things that came across my mind during the show. Just general Information processing.
First of all the digital display background is ingeniously used. At first I thought the screen is what made up pretty much the scenic design, which was ok..... But all the little fold up fold out sets proved to be just as effective. During a scene though there are arrows in the screen going up and down and all around. I actually thought of "Catch Me If You Can" since they used arrows a lot.
Most of the jokes were mediocre. But within the context of the dialogue and facial expressions they come off a bit more laughable. Although the second act had the Big numbers (One of the Boys, Get out and Stay out) it seemed toward the end it was "Ok guys,now we need to wrap up the show ASAP"
The choreography was very retro. The set also reminded me of the movie "Office Space" in a weird way. Also the plot seemed somewhat similar
All the main characters were top notch, along with the ensemble. But I saw some weakness for the Joe character.
It was my first time in the Marquee Theater and I was comfortably snuggled into my seat. Row A Mezz. But they again I just came out of the matinee of Waiting For Godot at the uncomfortable Studio 54 so I should factor that in.
The score was good. Some songs worked some didn't. I talked to some people who saw it in LA and they told me it was a generally vast improvement.
I am planning to go back in the city on the 29th of April. I was either going to see BE again or if I liked 9 to 5 so much I would give it another go. I loved 9to5 but the show itself didn't impact me the way BE did. So I have decided on BE.
Stage door wise, as much as it was crowded the cast was so generous with the time it took to go down the barricade into the front of the Broadway Store. Which I think that entrance should be not be used during the stage door process. Tourists who were coming out seemed to get in the way of the actors and there was a lot of equipment being moved that needed the space.
It is certainly a nice fresh show that is great in everyway. Kinda ticked off that the guy's t-shirts or the regular tees was orange, heh. I bought a blue and ended up looking like
Rudolph Muriel, soo my sister got a nice Easter present.
But definitely a recommendation to all audiences. It is very pleasing to the eyes and ears....and funny bone.
